On the women's side, junior Mary Vallinger (Poland/Poland
Seminary) swept both the 1m and 3m dives with scores of 234.60 and
212.25, while freshman Katy Alkire (Akron/Firestone) was the other
event winner as she won the 100 Butterfly in her first college
competition with a time of 1:03.87.
Sophomore Alyson Kolesar (Stow/Stow) had a solid opening meet
with second place finishes in the 100 Backstroke (1:03.10), 200
Backstroke (2:16.96) and in the 200 Medley Relay (1:56.14) with
Alkire, fellow sophomore Allison Davila (Middleburg
Heights/Midpark) and freshman Jocelyn Gaydos (Murrysville,
PA/Franklin Regional).
Other top performances from the women were second place finishes
from sophomore Sarah Noble (Copley/Copley) in the 100 Freestyle
(56.92), sophomore Tia Marquinez (Hudson/Walsh Jesuit) in the 1m
dive (192.90) and senior Samantha Tecca (Northfield/Nordonia) in
the 3m dive (176.95).
On the men's side, freshman Ben Davies
(Willoughby/Willoughby South) posted a win in the 200 IM (2:11.92)
, while the 200 Freestyle Medley team of senior Andy Neimes
(Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Hts), freshman Tyler Paulsen
(Heath/Heath), sophomore Marcus Suffolk (Canfield/Canfield) and
junior Matt Carlozzi (Canfield/Canfield) won the event with a time
of 1:31.03.
Carlozzi also placed second in the 200 Freestyle (1:50.55) and
sophomore Dominique Melvins (Woodmere/Orange) was second in the 200
IM (2:11.97) to round out the men's top performances.
Mount Union opens the home portion of the schedule next Friday
(Nov. 6) hosting Hiram in a duel at the Hammond Natatorium within
The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex on campus.
