Men's Lacrosse: Strong Second Quarter Propels Raiders to OAC Victory

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's men's lacrosse team took down Marietta 13-10 in a must win Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night.
 
The win for Mount Union will keep them in the top six of the OAC with a chance to make the OAC tournament.
 
The Purple Raiders (9-4, 3-3 OAC) were led by Talon Osmun (Mattawan, Mich. / Mattawan) with four goals and Braylon Li (Richfield / Revere) with three goals and an assist.
 
Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South) and Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) each scored two goals while Alex Feigel (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) and Sean Hanson (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson) each scored one goal.
 
Dane Matuscin (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) and Logan North (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) led Mount Union in ground balls with eight each while Cole Neimann (Idaho Falls, Id. / Idaho Falls) finished with three caused turnovers. Logan Gunderman (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hamburg) was in goal for Mount Union making eight saves.
 
Marietta (7-6, 2-4 OAC) was led by Sam Leininger with three goals, Caden Alkire with four ground balls and in goal making 13 saves was Ben Millard.
 
Mount Union won 20 face offs to Marietta's seven, Mount Union had 40 ground balls besting Marietta's 28 and Mount Union finished with more shots 47 to 35.
 
In the first quarter it was all Marietta outscoring Mount Union 4-1 but an 8-2 second quarter from Mount Union grabbed a 9-6 halftime lead. The third quarter saw Mount Union grow its lead with a 3-2 advantage leading 12-8 and over the final quarter Mount Union was outscored 2-1 but wasn't enough for Marietta as Mount Union held onto the 13-10 victory.
 
Mount Union will now head on the road for Saturday's game taking on Heidelberg at 1 PM in Tiffin, Ohio.
