ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union men's volleyball defeated Wittenberg in four sets, 25-17, 24-26, 25-21 and 29-27 in Midwest Colligate Volleyball League play as
Jack McClure (Massillon / Jackson) became the All-Time career kills leader on Saturday afternoon.
Mount Union takes control of the MCVL with a record of 4-0 with every team except Trine (2-0) having at least one loss in conference play.
The Purple Raiders (14-8, 4-0 MCVL) were led by a career-high from McClure with 28 kills while
Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wis. / Catholic Memorial) and
Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) finished with eight kills.
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) picked up 45 assists while
Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) finished with 14 digs while McClure picked up 10 digs and seven blocks.
Wittenberg (15-9, 2-1 MCVL) was led by Michael Yurk with 20 kills, Carson Hill with 37 assists and Zach Newton with 19 digs.
The first set saw Mount Union hit a blistering .667 hitting percent with18 kills and just two hitting errors while Wittenberg had 10 kills and six hitting errors.
The second set had two lead changes and nine ties throughout the set as Mount Union had 13 kills and five hitting errors while Wittenberg had 19 kills and seven errors.
The third set had five lead changes and seven ties with Mount Union finishing with 16 kills with two hitting errors while Wittenberg had 11 kills and six hitting errors.
The final set had 19 ties and eight lead changes with Mount Union finishing with 13 kills and seven hitting errors while Wittenberg had 15 kills and 11 hitting errors.
Mount Union will remain home next weekend with matches on Friday and Saturday against Calvin and Trine in MCVL play.
