ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's lacrosse team opened its season with a dominant 24-3 win over Bethany at home on Saturday.
The Purple Raiders led 9-0 after the first quarter and 15-1 at halftime. Freshman
Talon Osmun (Mattawan, Mich. / Mattawan) shined in his collegiate debut with a game-high eight points, including a game-best seven goals. Also earning a hat trick for the Raiders were senior
Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) with four goals and sophomore
Spencer Logsdon (Akron / Archbishop Hoban) with three. Logsdon dished out a game-high three assists.
Senior
Dane Matuscin (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) had a game-high seven ground balls, while classmate
Logan North (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) corralled five.
Freshman
Josh McCawley (Horsehead, N.Y. / Horsehead) and senior
Alec Blazer (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) both had a game-high three caused turnovers.
Senior goalie
Logan Gunderman (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hamburg) earned the win, not allowing a goal in 15 minutes of work.
Mount Union is back on the field Wednesday, Feb. 19 with a home non-conference game against Allegheny at 7 p.m.
