WAYNESBERG, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team defeated Muhlenberg 76-40 in the first game of the Omni Ink Waynesburg Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening.
The Purple Raiders (3-0) had three players score in double figures with sophomore
Chance Casenhiser (Uniontown / Lake) leading the way with a game-high 16 points. Juniors
Kevin Hamilton (Akron / St. Vincent St. Mary) and
Elijah Farrington (Massillon / Massillon Washington) rounded out the Raiders in double digits with 14 and 10 points respectively.
The Mules (1-2) were led by Liam Gorman who scored a team-high 11 points.
Mount Union would jump out to an early 8-3 lead over the first five minutes of the game. Muhlenberg would cut the lead down to three multiple times over the next 4:17 of game time before the Raiders would go on a 15-4 run over the next 5:59 to take their largest lead of the game at 29-15 with just under four minutes to play in the first half. The Raiders and Mules would trade baskets over the final four minutes of the half as Mount Union would take a 13-point, 36-23 lead into the halftime break.
The Raiders would open the second half with a massive 21-0 run over the first six and a half minutes of the half to extend their lead to 57-23 with 13:28 remaining in the game. The Mules wouldn't be able to get closer than 34 with the Raiders never leading by more than 40 over the remainder of the game as Mount Union would go on to win 76-40.
The Raiders are back in action again tomorrow for the championship game of the Omni Ink Waynesburg Tip-Off Tournament where they will take on the winner of tonight's game between Waynesburg and Case Western Reserve at 3 p.m.
