ADA, Ohio – The Mount Union baseball team lost both games of its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader at Ohio Northern on Saturday.
Mount Union (21-13, 9-7 OAC) lost game one in extra innings, 1-0, and 6-1 in game two.
It was a pitching duel in game one, with Mount junior starting pitcher
Jaired Lehman (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) with an impressive showing. Lehman threw nine scoreless innings, only allowing three hits and striking out four. In the bottom of the 10
th inning, Ohio Northern's Vinny Sclafani hit a sacrifice fly for the walk-off. Raider sophomore
Chris Phillips (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) got the loss, coming in for relief in the 10
th.
Ohio Northern (25-11, 12-4 OAC) broke a 1-1 tie in game two with an RBI-double by Nate Webb in the sixth, and the Polar Bears added a home run in both the seventh and eighth innings. First-year pitcher
Leo Fornara (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) moved to 6-2 on the season, throwing seven innings and giving up five runs off five hits. Senior
Anthony Kemer (Cleveland, Ohio / Lakewood St. Edward) scored the Mount run with an RBI-single.
The Purple Raiders will next play at Case Western Reserve tomorrow with a 2 p.m. start time.
