Men's Volleyball: Raiders Drop a Pair at Stevenson

STEVENSON, Maryland—Mount Union's men's volleyball team dropped two close matches Saturday afternoon at Stevenson University.
 
In the first match of the day Mount Union (6-9) almost completed a reverse sweep of Nichols (4-7) with sets of 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 14-16.
 
The Purple Raiders were led by Luke Pemberton (Jackson) with 15 kills and Carson Jeffers (Amherst) with 12 kills on just 16 attempts.
 
Justin Peters (Pittsburgh, PA / Canon-McMillan) finished with a team-high 28 assists while Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y.) had a game-high 24 digs.  
 
Nichols was led by Bradyn Pomainville with 14 kills, Evan Sachs with 39 assists and Adam Vincent with 14 digs.
 
In the second match of the day Mount Union lost in four sets, 25-23, 23-25, 19-25, and 22-25 to Stevenson (6-4).
 
Owen Geissman (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA / Trabucco Hills) led the team with 11 kills while Koszelak finished with 13 digs.
 
Drew Stein (Columbus / Olentangy Orange) led the way with 19 assists while Peters finished with 16 assists.
 
Stevenson was led by Tanner Laukhuff with 15 kills, Connor Ruth with 38 assists and Kevin Kouchoukos with 14 digs.
 
Mount Union returns to play on Saturday with its Midwest Collegiate Volleyball league opener at home at 3:30 PM against Baldwin Wallace and then will take on Buffalo State at 7:30 PM.
