ALLAINCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's volleyball team split the season openers with a sweep of Alfred and getting swept by Denison on Friday night to start the season.
The Purple Raiders (1-1) swept Alfred (0-2) 25-22, 25-23 and 25-14 to win the first game of the day.
Cami Welty (Willowick / Eastlake North) and
Zoe Sweigart (Canal Winchester) had double digit kills with 11 and 10 respectively while
Molly McKee (North Ridgeville) finished with nine.
DeLani Durst (Clyde) finished the game with 31 assists while
Averi Haley (Orrville) picked up a game-high 17 digs and
Sam Cantrell (Eastlake / Eastlake North) finished with four aces.
Alfred was led by Carleigh Santavy with 14 kills, Delaney Sims with 30 assists and Taylor Malone with 14 digs.
In the second game of the day Mount Union fell to Denison (2-0) 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21.
Sweigart led the way for the Raiders with 11 kills while McKee finished with eight. Durst finished with 24 assists while Haley had 14 digs.
Denison was led by Claire Hamilton with 15 kills, Alice Kempf with 40 assists and Sadie Habeeb with nine digs.
Mount Union will conclude its home tournament with games against Clarkson and DePauw at 10 am and 2 pm tomorrow.
