BEREA, Ohio – Mount Union's softball team defeated Baldwin Wallace 4-0 in the semifinal of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (26-12, 13-5 OAC) would break the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning when junior
Faith Reicosky (North Canton / Hoover) hit a two-RBI single that scored freshman
Allison Jones (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) and junior
Sydney Mercer (Salem / West Branch) to take a 2-0 lead. Then, later that inning junior
Kendyll Cahill (Groveport / Groveport Madison) hit an RBI double to bring in Reicosky and stretch the lead to three runs.
Mount Union would add another run in the following inning when Mercer hit an RBI single that scored Jones to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Yellow Jackets (30-3, 15-1 OAC) wouldn't have an answer over the final two innings as the Raiders would go on to win 4-0.
Cahill got the start in the circle for Mount Union and threw a complete game shutout, giving up just five hits and striking out three.
The win advances the Raiders to tomorrow's championship game that will take place at 11 a.m., their opponent will be determined by the outcomes of the two elimination games played later today.
