KENOSHA, Wisconsin—Mount Union men's volleyball senior
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) picked up his 3,000 career assist in Mount Union's five set loss, 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-25 and 15-12, to No. 4 Springfield in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Tournament Friday night.
No. 20 nationally ranked Mount Union (20-9) was led by
Jack McClure (Massillon / Jackson) with 16 kills.
Jacob Nussdorfer ( Lewis Center / Olentangy) and
Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) each picked up double digit kills with 12 and 10 respectively.
Heeney picked up 39 assists to finish his career with 3,017 assists.
Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) picked up 12 digs while
Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wis. / Catholic Memorial) had 11 digs.
No. 4 Springfield (23-4) was led by Carter Durivage with 18 kills, Dylan Mulvaney with 57 assists and Jake DesLauriers with 17 digs.
Mount Union dropped the first set 25-18 as Mount Union had nine kills while Springfield finished with 12.
The second set Mount Union won 25-22 with nine kills again while Springfield once again had more kills with 15.
Mount Union took the third set 25-23 with 13 kills compared to Springfields 18 kills.
Over the final two sets, however, Mount Union only had nine kills compared to Springfields 21.
Mount Union ends its season at 20-9 overall and 8-0 in the MCVL winning both the Regular Season and Tournament Championship.
