ADA, Ohio—Mount Union's women's lacrosse team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 19-7 victory over Ohio Northern Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (6-3, 1-0 OAC) was led by a duo of
Ella Nejad (Rocky River) and
Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Walsh Jesuit) with four goals and one assist each. Nejad and Kesler each picked up seven draw controls for Mount Union as well.
Anna Weinel (Dayton / Chaminade-Julienne),
Reese Fuenfstueck (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport),
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and
Liz Schumacher (Columbus / Upper Arlington) each scored two goals for Mount Union with
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor),
Tara Santoro (Canfield) and
Emily Funk (Strongsville) each had one goal.
Sophie Graves (Fairport, N.Y. / Penfield) picked up a game-high seven ground balls for Mount Union while also creating three Ohio Northern turnovers in the game.
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) picked up the victory in net making five saves.
Ohio Northern (6-3, 0-1 OAC) was led by Elena Martin and Emma Hoersten with two goals while Kara Fox was in goal making six saves and allowing 17 goals.
Mount Union jumped out to a 7-2 first quarter lead while extending the lead out to 11-3 at the halftime break.
Mount Union proceeded to out score Ohio Northern 6-1 in the third quarter to take a 17-4 lead into the final quarter. Ohio Northern outscored Mount Union 3-2 in the final quarter but was not enough to create a comeback with Mount Union taking the 19-7 victory.
Mount Union continues OAC play at home next Wednesday at 7 PM taking on Muskingum.
