Women's Lacrosse: Ella Nejad and Katie Clark Tie School Records in Win Over DePauw

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's lacrosse team tied two different team record as Ella Nejad (Rocky River) tied the goals record with eight while Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) tied the assists record with eight leading Mount Union to a 22-9 home opening win over DePauw on Saturday afternoon in Kehres Stadium.
 
The Purple Raiders (1-1) were led by Nejad and Clark with double digit point games. Nejad finished with eight goals and two assists while Clark picked up three goals and eight assists.
 
Haylee Handrahan (Hillard) picked up three goals, Emily Funk (Strongsville) and Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) each had two goals while Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor), Mae Pawlikowski (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park), Emma Labbe (Uniontown / Lake) and Reese Fuenfstuek (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) each had a goal.
 
Kesler, Labbe along with Tara Santoro (Canfield) and Delaney Brown (Butler, Pa. / Butler Area) each caused two turnovers while Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) picked up the victory with eight saves in the game.
 
DePauw (0-2) was led by Rosalie Tasker with three goals, Bridget Driscoll with three caused turnovers and Niamh Callahan picked up five saves in the loss.
 
Mount Union jumped out to a 7-0 lead as DePauw answered with two goals as Mount Union led 7-2. Mount Union added one more goal late in the quarter taking an 8-2 lead.
 
Mount Union outscored DePauw 5-2 in the second quarter as the Raiders had the first four goals while DePauw finished the half on a 2-1 run. DePauw came out of the halftime break scoring the first two goals, but Mount Union responded with a 4-1 run taking a 17-7 lead. DePauw finished the quarter on a 2-1 run as Mount Union led 18-9.
 
Mount Union scored four goals in the final quarter while holding DePauw to none taking the 22-9 victory.
 
Mount Union will now head on the road to Meadville, Pa. to take on Allegheny on Wednesday with a 7 PM start time.
