ADRIAN, Michigan—The Mount Union men's volleyball team opened Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League play with a four-set victory, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21 and 25-17 over Adrian Friday evening on the road.
The Purple Raiders (10-8, 1-0 MCVL) were led by
Jack McClure (Massillon / Jackson) with 16 kills while
Camden Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz. / Agua Fria) finished with 10 kills on just 17 attempts.
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) led the team with 29 assists while
Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) finished with 15 digs.
Adrian (4-11, 0-1 MCVL) was led by Sam Landers with 13 kills, Andrew Graczyk with 37 assists and Landers with 10 assists.
Mount Union led the way in kills in the first set with 12 compared to seven for Adrian while Adrian made seven hitting errors and Mount Union had just four.
The second set the role was reversed as Adrian had more kills with 14 compared to Mount Union's 11 and Mount Union had more hitting errors with seven to Adrians four.
Mount Union got more kills in the third set with 14 to Adrian's 12 but had more hitting errors than Adrian six to three but Adrian made more serving errors five to three and that was the difference in the set.
The final set saw Mount Union be very efficient in hitting as they had 15 kills on 32 attempts with just two errors while Adrian had 10 kills on 30 attempts with five hitting errors.
Mount Union will conclude its trip to Michigan with a noon start against Olivet tomorrow in Olivet, Michigan.
