Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio— The Mount Union women's basketball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon taking down Muskingum 68-54 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
The Purple Raiders (8-3, 1-2 OAC) were led by
Chelsea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Bree McCabe (Massillon / Tuslaw) finished the game with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) put together a nine-point, eight rebound game while McKayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) finished the game with 10 rebounds.
Muskingum (3-4, 0-3 OAC) was led by Mckinzi Linscott with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Mount Union got off to a 5-0 lead in the first 2:23 of the game off a layup from
Lily Scott (Youngstown / Ursuline) and a three from Evanich. Muskingum tied the game up at nine but a 5-0 run from Scott put Mount Union up 14-9 with 45 seconds left in the quarter. Muskingum responded with a 6-0 run to end the quarter, taking a 15-14 lead into the quarter break.
Both teams exchanged buckets through the first four minutes of the second quarter as Mount Union trailed by one at 20-19. Mount Union then went on a 7-0 run in just 1:38 as three different Raiders scored in the run taking a six-point lead. Mount Union got its largest lead of the first half at the 1:24 mark on free throws from McCabe being up nine. Mount Union took a 33-27 lead into the halftime break as Muskingum finished the quarter on a 3-0 run.
Muskingum closed to within four but a 5-0 run from Evanich gave Mount Union a 38-29 lead. Mount Union pushed its lead out to 12 twice in the quarter as the last one came with just four seconds remaining in the quarter as Evanich made two free throws as Mount Union took a 52-40 lead into the final quarter.
Mount Union held a double-digit lead in all of the fourth quarter as they had their largest lead of 68-49 with 2:37 remaining in the game on an Evanich and-one bucket.
Mount Union dominated the boards as they out rebounded Muskingum 54-26 in total rebounds and 24-8 in offensive rebounds.
Mount Union will now head back to Alliance taking on Ohio Northern on Saturday, December 20th at 3 pm at home.
