WILMINGTON, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against Wilmington 5-3 on Saturday evening.
The Purple Raiders (7-2-3, 0-1-1 OAC) would strike first when junior
Alex Depperschmidt (Mansfield / Lexington) would find the back of the net in the 25
th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Quakers (10-2-2, 3-0-0 OAC) would tie the game at a goal apiece in the 50
th minute when Eli Eyrich scored. Wilmington would then claim their first lead of the game in the 62
nd minute when Eyrich scored his second goal of the game. Then, in the 67
th minute the Quakers would extend their lead, this time scoring on a Brayden Spencer goal to take a 3-1 lead.
Mount Union would cut into the lead in the 69
th minute when senior
Reese Utter (Dover) scored on a penalty kick, cutting the lead to just a goal. Wilmington would push the lead back to two goals just under a minute and a half later when Logan Kent found the back of the net and a little over nine minutes they would add another goal, this time coming from Parker Burke to make the lead 5-2.
The Raiders would cut into the lead once again when junior
Tyler Harsch (Aliquippa, Pa. / Central Valley) scored to cut the lead to 5-3 in the 82
nd minute but that is as close as they would get as the Quakers would go on to win 5-3.
The Raiders return home next when they host Muskingum in Kehres Stadium in an OAC matchup on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. in Alliance.
