ALLIANCE, Ohio—Senior outside hitter
Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) picked up her 1,000 career kill as the Mount Union women's volleyball team took home two victories Friday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (7-2) dropped the first set 25-23 against Grove City (4-4) and then took the next three, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19, to take the first victory of the day.
Bartell along with
Ava Bolen (Wellsburg, W. Va. / Brooke) finished with 14 kills each and combined to hit .438 committing just three errors. Bolen led the Raiders in blocks and aces picking up eight total blocks and three service aces.
Katelyn Lesko (Mineral Ridge) picked up 17 digs while Bartell and
Averi Haley (Orrville) each had double digit digs with 15 and 11.
Casey Kildow (Bethesda / Union Local) and
Melissa Hansen (Hudson) split the setter duties with Kildow picking up 29 assists and Hansen have 24.
Grove City was led by Alexis Standford with 17 kills, Kennedy Kerr with 22 assists and Julia Fisher with 20 digs.
Mount Union swept the second match of the day, 25-12, 25-12, 25-12, and had its best hitting match of the season with a hitting percentage of .322 with 41 kills and just 12 errors. Mount Union held Pitt-Bradford (1-5) to a negative hitting percentage as they had 16 kills and 19 errors.
Bartell finished with a game high 12 kills while
Riley Meister (Madison) finished with nine kills.
Bartell led the team in service aces with three while Lesko finished the match with 18 digs.
Kildow once again led in assists with 18 while Hansen was right behind with 16 total assists.
Mount Union will take off the rest of the weekend and head to Hiram on Wednesday for a 7 pm start time.
