DELAWARE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team lost their season opener against Ohio Wesleyan 3-1 on Friday night.
The Battling Bishops (1-0) struck first when Christopher Guerra found the back of the net in the 23
rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Purple Raiders (0-1) would tie the game at one in the 46
th minute off a goal by fifth year
Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele), with freshman
Amir Spratt (Kent / Kent Roosevelt) and sophomore
Alex Depperschmidt (Mansfield / Lexington) picking up the assist.
Ohio Wesleyan would reclaim the lead in the 55
th minute when Guerra netted his second goal of the game this time off an assist from Franklin Rodriguez to take a 2-1 lead. The Bishops would add to their lead in the 71
st minute when Colin Callahan scored off an assist from Gabe O'Reilly and Drew Doza to take a 3-1 lead.
Mount Union wouldn't be able to answer over the final 19 minutes of action as Ohio Wesleyan would go on to win 3-1.
The Raiders return home next when they host Bethany on Sunday, September 1 at 3 p.m. in Kehres Stadium.
