Softball: Raiders Season Comes to an End in NCAA Regional Championship

ANGOLA, Ohio – Mount Union's softball team lost in the NCAA Regional Championship game to No. 4 nationally ranked Trine 8-0.

The Thunder (42-3) would strike first with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring off a two-run homerun from Tyra Marcum and a solo homerun from Debbie Hill to take a 3-0 lead. Trine would add three more runs to their lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring off of RBIs from Macy Rocha, Emma Beyer and Scarlett Elliot to extend their lead to six runs. The Thunder would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring off of RBIs from Beyer and Elliott.

The Purple Raiders (34-10) wouldn't be able to plate any runs as Trine would go on to win 8-0 in five innings.

Sophomore Kendyll Cahill (Grove Port / Grove Port Madison) got the start in the circle for Mount Union and gave up six runs on seven hits while striking out one in 2.1 innings of work. Sophomore Brooklyn Schlabach (Apple Creek / Waynedale) and pitched two innings of relief, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out two.

Sophomores Emily Denney (Poland / Poland Seminary), Faith Reicosky (North Canton / Hoover), Kaitlyn Culver (Girard) and Cahill were all named to the Angola Regional All-Regional Team.

The Raiders finished the season with a 34-10 record, making it to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament and making it back to the NCAA Regional Championship game. They also went 15-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play and won their second consecutive OAC Regular Season Championship.
