ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 25 nationally-ranked Mount Union softball team lost, 5-2 to Ohio Northern in Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament play on Friday afternoon.
In game one, the No. 4-seeded Polar Bears scored all of their runs in the third inning with the first two coming off errors. Allie Wilson followed with a three-run home run, which proved to the difference. Sophomores
Kendyll Cahill (Grove Port / Grove Port Madison) and
Faith Reicosky (North Canton / Hoover) crossed the plate for Mount Union in the bottom of the third.
Sophomore
Chloe Bird (Norton / Norton) moved to 12-2 on the season, after starting on the mound and pitching 4.0 innings, giving up five runs, zero earned off three hits. Cahill came in for relief and only gave up one hit in three scoreless innings, while striking out two.
The Purple Raiders started their elimination against second seeded Muskingum, however play was suspended after the fourth inning due to darkness. The game will pick up tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with Mount Union trailing 5-3.
