ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse took down Marietta 22-11 to earn its first Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (6-3, 1-1 OAC) were led by senior
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) led the team with six goals while junior
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N. Y. / Victor Senior) and sophomore
Ella Nejad (Rocky River/ Rocky River) each had five goals respectively.
Graduate student Brita Treu (Auburn Township/ Kenston) and senior
Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston) each had 2 goals while Junior
Emily Funk (Strongsville/ Strongsville) and
Tara Santoro (Canfield/Canfield) each had one goal.
Picking up the victory in goal for Mount Union was
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) making 9 saves.
Leading Marietta (5-6, 0-2) was Mallory Wiles with 3 goals while Abby May made 11 saves in goal.
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union came out strong getting the first three goals of the game from Nejad, Treu, and Kolstad but Marietta was quick to respond going on a 2-0 scoring run. The Raiders kept adding to their lead ending the quarter with four more goals as Kolstad had two goals while Clark and Kesler each added a goal ending the quarter up 7-2.
SECOND QUARTER
Marietta came out in the second quarter scoring a goal. However, the Raider answered by going on a 3-0 scoring. All three of the goals came from
Katie Clark giving her 23 goals on the season. Marietta was able to narrow the scoring gap to 6 when they scored their fourth goal with 2:49 in the quarter giving Kolstad a chance to raise the lead to 11-4 by the end of the quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
Marietta came out strong in the third quarter going on a 4-0 scoring streak closing the lead for the Raiders 11-8. Funk broke the streak scoring the Raiders twelfth goal of the game. Despite the Raiders slow start in the second half were able to expand their lead to 16-8 by the end of the third quarter with additional goals from Treu, Kolstad, and Clark.
FOURTH QUARTER
Even though Marietta came out in the fourth quarter with two opening goals, the Raiders were able to continue to keep their lead with another 6 goals in the quarter scored by Nejad, Santoro, Kesler, and Clark.
Mount Union will travel to Westerville, Ohio to take on Otterbein, on Saturday, April 6th at 5 p.m.
