Women's Basketball: Mason's Career-High Not Enough In OAC Loss

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against Wilmington 71-59 matchup Saturday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders (7-10, 4-6OAC) were led by freshman Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with career high of 23 points and junior Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) with 11 points and 3 steals.
 
The Wilmington Quakers (4-12, 2-8 OAC) was led by Cassidy Lovett with 28 points while Stephanie Altstaetter finished with two blocks and 17 rebounds.
 
FIRST QUARTER
The Raiders were able to come out strong against the Quakers going on a 4-0 scoring run within the first 2 minutes to get the lead early on. The Quakers were quick to answer going on their own 4-0 scoring run to tie up the game, 4-4. Both teams battled back and forth getting some point on the board, the Quakers were able to break out finishing the quarter with a buzzer beater taking the lead 14-13.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Mount Union was determined to stay in the game, coming out quick in this quarter with a 3-pointer from Mucci to take the lead 16-14. Wilmington was not giving up either, going on a 10-3 scoring run to reclaim their lead 24-19, with Mount Union trailing close behind. Again, both teams battled it our getting points on the board, but Mount Union was able to finish strong going on a 10-6 scoring run, with Wilmington still in the lead 36-31.
 
THIRD QUARTER
The Quakers came out strong, going on a 10-1 scoring run to extend their lead 46-32. The Purple Raiders were able to rally in the quarter going on an 8-6 scoring run to close the gap 52-40 with the Quakers still leading. However, the Quakers responded going on a 9-2 scoring run keeping their lead 61-42 going into the end of the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER
Mount Union was able to start the quarter out strong getting the first 2 points, in a 9-4 scoring run to close the gap, 65-51 still trailing Wilmington. Wilmington, however, was not giving up and battled it out with Mount Union. Wilmington went on a 6-3 scoring run to extend and retain their lead 71-54. Mount Union was able to finish going on a 5-0 scoring run, but it wasn't enough to overtake Wilmington making the final score 71-59.
 
The Raiders are home again taking on Baldwin Wallace in an OAC matchup on Wednesday with a 7 PM tip-off.
