BEXLEY, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse almost pulled off the upset of the No. 3-seed Capital falling 14-13 in overtime in the Ohio Athletic Conference Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon
The Purple Raiders (6-11) were led by
Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) with four goals and three assists while
Grant Dunmire (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton) picked up four goals as well.
Connor Addison (South Bend, Ind. / Mishawaka) scored two goals while
Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly),
Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) and
Sean Hanson (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson) each had a goal.
Axel Magarrell (Portland, Ore. / Tualatin) picked up four ground balls while
Anthony Andreski (Grand Blanc, Mich.) caused three turnovers.
Logan Gundermann (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hamburg) was in goal making 17 saves.
Capital (13-4) was led by Nathan Montgomery, Brenden Pelton and Charlie Howenstine with three goals while Sam McInturf made 12 saves.
Capital got on the board first with a goal 3:50 into the game. Mount Union then responded with three goals as Dunmire had two and Ciotti scored one to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.
Capital got the first goal again in the second quarter as Mount Union responded with a goal from Gebhart and Dunmire to take a 5-2 lead. Capital responded with four goals to take a 6-5 lead but a goal from Addonizio tied the game up at the half.
Mount Union got the first two goals of the third quarter with Addonizio and Addison each scoring. Capital responded for three straight goals to take a 9-8 lead. Mount Union finished the third quarter on a 2-1 run with a goal from Addonizio and Dunmire to have the game tied at 10 after three quarters of play.
In the fourth quarter each team battled with scores going back and forth as Mount Union got a goal each from Hanson, Addison and Addonizio as both teams ended the quarter tied 13-13.
Capital would find the golden goal with just seven seconds left in the first overtime to take the 14-13 victory.
Mount Union will conclude its season 6-11 overall and 3-6 in the OAC
