ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's softball team swept Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Thursday evening, winning game one 4-0 and winning game two 2-0.
The Purple Raiders (29-7, 12-4 OAC) struck first in game one scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the first coming off an RBI single from sophomore
Adri George (Eastlake / North) and the second coming off an RBI sacrifice fly from freshman
Kendyll Cahill (Grove Port / Grove Port Madison) to take an early 2-0 lead. Mount Union would add to their lead in the top half of the third when freshman
Sydney Mercer (Salem / West Branch) hit an RBI triple that scored senior
Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch) then George drove in Mercer to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Polar Bears (19-15, 9-7 OAC) wouldn't be able to answer over the final four innings as the Raiders would go on to take game one 4-0.
Cahill got the start in the circle for Mount Union and pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just two hits and striking out nine.
The Raiders and Polar Bears were locked in a zero-zero tie heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when Cahill hit an RBI single that scored Mercer and then senior
Alexis Temple hit and RBI single that brought home sophomore
