ADA, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team defeated Ohio Northern 20-7 Sunday afternoon in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener.
The Purple Raiders (5-1, 1-0 OAC) were led on offense by
Julia Bates with a career-high seven goals and one assist and
Eden Kesler with five goals and two assists.
Emily Nannarone and
Mackenzie Kolstad also picked up double digit goals with three and two respectively.
Megan Casciola led Mount Union in caused turnovers with three while
Tara Santoro led the team in ground balls with five.
Abby Lindkvist picked up the victory in goal with four saves.
Ohio Northern (5-4, 0-1 OAC) was led by Meredith Miller with five goals, Taylor Hannam-Zatz with four ground balls and Chloe Millican was in goal making four saves.
Mount Union got the game started off with the first six goals with five different scorers as Nannarone scoring two and Kesler, Bates, Kolstad and
Madi Karr grabbing a goal each. Ohio Northern got a goal right at the end of the quarter as the Raiders led 6-1.
The second quarter saw another Mount Union run this time a 5-0 run with Kesler getting two and Kolstad, Bates and
Sam Karr getting a goal each to lead 11-1. Once again Ohio Northern got a goal to end the period as Mount Union led 11-2.
The third quarter saw a 2-0 run from each team twice and another goal from Mount Union as Bates and Kelser scored two and Nannarone scored another.
Mount Union outscored Ohio Northern 4-1 in the fourth quarter as Bates scored three and
Emily Funk joined the scoring with a goal to end the game 20-7.
Mount Union will now return home in an OAC battle against Marietta with the game beginning at 6 p.m.
