ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union baseball team won, 16-10, over Penn State Behrend in its homer opener on Sunday.
The game was tied 6-6 after three innings of play, before Mount Union (13-5) outscored Penn State Behrend (5-7) 10-0 in the next five innings for a commanding 16-6 lead. The Lions scored four runs in the final inning.
Raider first-year
Leo Fornara (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) continued to impress on the mound as he improved to 4-0 on the season with 6.1 innings of relief, not giving up any earned runs and only allowing two hits. Mount sophomore
Joe Lenart (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) led the offense with a game- and career-high five RBIs, and went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Senior
Chase Angotti (Monongahela, Pa. / Ringgold) and junior
Andrew Mekeal (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / Woodridge) added two RBIs apiece for the Purple Raiders. Mount Union out-hit Behrend, 20-16.
Mount will next host Heidelberg in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 1. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
