GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Mount Union baseball team won, 11-8, at Thiel in a non-conference single nine-inning game on Monday.
The Purple Raiders (11-4) took a 1-0 lead off an RBI-double by junior
Andrew Mekeal (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / Woodridge) in the second and maintained their lead for the remainder of the game. Mekeal's double was one of four extra-base hits for Mount. Senior
Anthony Kemer (Cleveland, Ohio / Lakewood St. Edward) blasted his first home run of the season over the left field fence after coming in to pinch hit in the ninth.
Thiel (1-8) tried to rally with five runs in the ninth, but the Raiders held the Tomcats off for their second-straight victory.

Leo Fornara (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) improved to 2-0 on the mound, allowing only two runs off two hits and striking out seven in five innings of work. Senior
Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic) earned the first save of his career after coming in and not allowing a hit in 0.2 innings.
Mount is back on the field Saturday, March 25 as it opens Ohio Athletic Conference play at Marietta in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
