Men's Volleyball: Will Heeney Gets 1,000th Assist in MCVL Loss

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's volleyball dropped a five-set match, 25-9, 28-30, 17-25, 25-22 and 12-15, to Wittenberg Friday night in MCVL play.
 
Sophomore Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) picked up his 1,000th assist in set three of the match as he finished with 47 total assist.
 
The Purple Raiders (13-5, 2-1 MCVL) were led on offense by Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) with 16 kills. Andrew Cross (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis University High) and Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) finished with 12 and 10 kills.
 
Michael Bowler (Broadview Height / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) finished with a team high five blocks while Ternent had four. Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wis. / Catholic Memorial) finished with a game-high 15 digs.
 
Mount Union came out red hot having 15 kills on just 17 attempts for .882 hitting percentage while Wittenberg had six kills and five errors.
 
In set two both teams had 17 kills while Mount had just five errors to Wittenberg's eight but Wittenberg pulled out a set victory.
 
The third set Wittenberg found its grove as it had 13 kills with just four errors while Mount Union had 11 kills and five errors as Wittenberg was .346 and Mount Union was .240 for hitting percentage.
 
Mount Union responded with a fourth set victory as they had 11 kills and five errors again while Wittenberg had more kills with 13 but more errors with nine.
 
The final set saw both teams go on runs but in the end Wittenberg picked up the victory behind nine kills to Mount Union's four.
 
Mount Union has a short turn around with the team taking on MCVL foe Mount St. Joseph at 10 am and nonconference opponent Geneva at 2 p.m.
