Women's Basketball: Raiders Storm Past Geneva (Pa.) in Season Opening Win

BEAVER FALLS, Pennsylvania—The Mount Union women's basketball team opened its season with a 95-77 victory against Geneva (Pa.) Wednesday night.
 
The Purple Raiders (1-0) were led by freshman Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuskey Valley Central Catholic) scoring 19 points connecting on five threes in the game.
 
Sophomore Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds while freshman Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) was one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds. Junior Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) was one assist away from a double-double finishing the game with 11 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
 
Freshman Brooklyn Mosher (Caledonia / River Valley) had 13 points connecting on three threes.
 
Geneva (0-1) was led by Mia San Nicholas with a game-high 25 points while Taylor Milroy led the team with seven rebounds.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Geneva got the first bucket of the season, but Mount Union responded just nine second later as Mason would get the Raiders first bucket of the season and Mount Union took off on a 7-0 run. After a basket once again from Geneva, Mount Union went on a 9-2 run to take a 16-6 lead. Mount Union finished the quarter off on a 9-0 run as Triplett, Nash and Mosher each scored three points to take a 34-17 lead at the end of the quarter.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Geneva came out of the quarter break on an 8-0 run to close within nine at 34-25. A driving lay up from Mason once again gave Mount Union a 36-25 lead. Geneva used another 8-0 run to close within three. The Raiders would push the lead out to six points three separate times over the final four minutes as they took a 47-41 lead into the halftime break.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Coming out of the halftime break a layup from sophomore Mckayla Dunkle (), three from Triplett and a jumper from Nash got Mount Union out to a 54-41 lead. Geneva however responded with an 11-2 run of its own to get within four. Mount Union finished the quarter on a 13-5 run with Mosher scoring seven points to take a 69-57 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
A slow start over the first minute and a half saw just a free throw from Geneva. Nash gave Mount Union a 71-58 lead on a layup. Mount Union kept an 11-to-14-point lead over the next five minutes until Geneva got a layup to trail 81-72. Mount Union finished the game off on a 14-5 run seeing five different scorers for the Raiders.

Mount Union returns to the court on Saturday, November 11 at 2 pm taking on host Kalamazoo College in the Teammates For Life Tip-off Tournament.
