NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Muskingum 14-7 Wednesday night in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
With the win Mount Union has clinched a spot into the OAC tournament which will begin on Saturday, April 30th.
Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) led the Purple Raiders (8-5, 4-3 OAC) tying his career-high with six goals and also had an assist.
Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillian) added two goals with three assists while
Connor O'Neil (Medina) and
Grant Dunmire (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) each scored two goals and
Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly) and
Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich / Walled Lake Western) each scored one.
Muskingum (8-7, 2-5 OAC) was led by Nathan Robey who scored two goals.
Mount Union got the first three goals of the game with Muskingum stopping the run at the 4:59 mark of the first quarter with a goal of its own. Mount Union scored two more goals with another Muskingum goal to end the quarter.
The second quarter saw the Raiders score two goals while holding Muskingum scoreless taking a 7-2 lead into the half.
Mount Union began the third period with another 3-0 run to push the lead out to 10-2. Muskingum responded with a goal but less than three minutes later the Raiders put up another goal.
Mount Union scored three goals in the final period including two of the last three goals to pull away from Muskingum in a 14-7 victory.
Kyle Reihner (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Prep) had 13 saves in goal for Mount Union in the victory.
Mount Union is scheduled to take on Otterbein in OAC play on Saturday April 23 at 1 p.m. in Alliance, Ohio.
