WILMINGTON, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team swept Wilmington in a doubleheader in Ohio Athletic Conference play, winning game one 5-3 in eleven innings and winning game two 11-4 on Friday afternoon.
The Quakers (12-15, 1-7 OAC) struck first in game one scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Caleb Scott hit an RBI double that brought home Jared Lammert. Wilmington would add to their lead in the bottom half of the second when Zach Christensen hit an RBI single to bring in Dominic Depa and give the Quakers a 2-0 lead. Wilmington would add another run in the bottom of the fifth coming of an RBI from Evan Kelsey to take a 3-0 lead.
The Purple Raiders (17-8, 8-2 OAC) would answer in the top half of the eighth inning, scoring two runs. The first came off a sacrifice fly from senior
Coleman Stauffer (Boardman) that scored senior
Walker Marlowe (Berlin Center / Western Reserve), the second run of the inning came off an RBI single from junior
Chase Angotti (Monongahela, Pa. / Ringgold) that brought home sophomore
Jaired Lehman (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway). Mount Union would tie the game at three in the top of the ninth when junior
Eric Schilling (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) hit an RBI double that scored sophomore

Mount Union would break the tie in the eleventh inning when sophomore
Andrew Mekeal (Cuyahoga Falls / Woodridge) hit a two RBI double that brought home junior
Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic) and Angotti and would give the Raiders a 5-3 victory in eleven innings.
Senior
Thomas Gallant (Pataskala / Watkins Memorial) got the start on the hill for Mount Union and gave up three runs on nine hits and struck out three in 8.1 innings pitched. Senior
Ryan Osman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon) would come in to pitch the final 2.2 innings in relief and gave up zero runs on two hits and struck out one.
The Raiders would strike first in game two scoring in the top of the first when Schilling hit an RBI single that brought home
Zack Mazza. The Quakers would answer in the bottom half of the inning when Scott hit a two-run home run to give Wilmington a 2-1 lead.
Mount Union would reclaim the lead in the top half of the second, scoring three runs. The first came off a solo home run from Marlowe, the next two came after Mazza reached first on an error by the Wilmington shortstop and Stauffer and Angotti scored. Wilmington would answer with a run of their own in the bottom half of the third when Tyler Shaneyfelt scored on a failed pickoff attempt by the Raiders' catcher to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Raiders would add to their lead scoring three runs in both the fourth and the fifth innings. The three runs in the fourth came when Lehman scored on a wild pitch, then Angotti stole home and senior
Nate Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) hit an RBI single that scored Mazza. The three runs in the fifth inning came off RBIs from Marlowe, Angotti and Stauffer to give Mount Union a 10-3 lead.
Wilmington would cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the seventh when Kelsey hit an RBI double the brought in Shaneyfelt to trim the lead down to 11-4. In the top half of the eighth Lehman hit an RBI single that scored Schilling and would give Mount Union the 11-4 victory.
Senior
Dwayne Sumler (Indianapolis, Ind. / Warren Central) got the start for the Raiders and gave up three runs on five hits, while striking out five in six innings. Sophomore
Chuck Hawley (Mentor) would come in to pitch 1.2 innings of relief and gave up one run on two hits and struck out one. Senior
Cole Robinson (Lewis Center / Olentangy) came in to pitch the final 1.1 innings and gave up zero runs on zero hits with a strike out.
The Raiders are on the road again next as they travel to Marietta, Ohio to take on the No. 1 nationally ranked Pioneers in an OAC matchup on Wednesday, April 20, with game one of the doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. and game two following at 7 p.m.
