ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's volleyball team defeated Wabash Saturday Afternoon in Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League action with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, and 25-17) sweep at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders honored four seniors in
Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich),
Kaleb Krebs (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton La Salle),
Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Archbishop Hoban) and
Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) which helped start the men's volleyball team.
With the win Mount Union (10-11, 6-1 MCVL) clinched a spot in the MCVL tournament that will take place on April 8th and 9th at the site of the regular season champion.
Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) led Mount Union in kills with 11 while Matonis finished with nine total.
Leyden led the Raiders with 17 assists while
Max Kaiser (Lewis Center / Olentangy) finished with 12 assists to pace the offense.
Defensively, Grenier led Mount Union with 12 digs and
Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) finished with six digs.
Ricky Sessions and Jackson Leeper had eight kills for Wabash (3-16, 0-6 MCVL).
Mount Union hosts Geneva (Pa.) on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at home and then finishes up conference play and the regular season on Sunday April 3 at Trine University in Angola, Ind. at 1 p.m.
