Raiders Drop High Scoring Contest

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team was defeated by Allegheny 16-15 Wednesday night at Robertson Blue Turf.
 
The Purple Raiders (2-1) were led by Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) and Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) had four goals each.
 
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) had a game-high six points with three goals and three assists while Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) Emily Funk (Strongsville), Ashley Carr (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) and Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) each scored one goal.
 
Allegheny (5-0) was led by Grace Baginski who scored five goals.
 
Allegheny began the game jumping out to a 4-1 lead, but Mount Union responded with a 4-2 run including two goals from Kesler in a 1:06 period to be trailing 6-5 after one period.
 
The second quarter saw Allegheny score the first two goals and then both teams trading goals with Carr, Clark and Bumbarger scoring goals for Mount Union trailing 10-8.
 
Allegheny once again scored first in the third quarter but this time two goals from Kesler and a goal each from Mackenzie Kolstad and Bumbarger tied the game up at 12 at the end of the period.
 
Starting the final quarter Mount Union had a 3-2 run with two goals from Clark and a goal from Bumbarger but two goals in the final two minutes from Allegheny gave them the 16-15 victory.
 
The Raiders next play Monday, March 21 at 4 p.m. in Gambier, Ohio against Kenyon College.
