Men's Basketball: No. 4 Raiders Down Lebanon Valley in Florida

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 4 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team defeated Lebanon Valley 78-62 on Wednesday evening at the Land of Magic Classic.

The Purple Raiders (9-1) had two players score in double digits, with senior Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) leading the way with a game high 23 points. Junior Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) added in 18 points.

The Flying Dutchmen (4-7) were led by Collin Jones who also scored a game high 23 points.

The Raiders and Dutchmen traded baskets over the first five minutes of the game, before a Parker jumper sparked a quick 8-3 run to give Mount Union a 19-14 lead with 13:46 remaining in the first half. Lebanon Valley would answer with a 6-2 run over the next 5:14 to cut the lead down to one with just over eight minutes to play in the half. The Raiders and Dutchmen would then trade baskets over the final eight minutes of the half, with Mount Union taking a 29-27 lead into the break.

After trading baskets over the first five and a half minutes of the second half, a three-pointer by Gurley sparked a 16-4 Raider run over the next 5:27 of game time to give Mount Union a 61-42 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the game. The Dutchmen were never able to get closer than 13 over the final nine minutes of the game as Mount Union would go on to win 78-62.

The Raiders are back in action again tomorrow when they take on Gettysburg at 5 p.m. at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.
