Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union softball team (11-1, 8-0 OAC) win streak extends to nine as they swept the Student Princes of Heidelberg (2-8-1, 1-7 OAC) in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Frann's Field with a game one score after six innings of 16-4 and a game two score of 14-4 after five innings.
Game One
The Purple Raiders were led by senior Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) who went 3-4 on the game with two doubles and two RBIs, as well as sophomore Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch) who went 3-5 bringing in four runs, and secured the Raider win off a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
Mount Union picked right back off from yesterday as they tallied three runs to start the game. The Student Princes were able to respond with two runs of their own to shorten the Raider's lead to 3-2 after the first inning. The Raiders trailed by two going into the fourth inning, but a four-run inning put the Raiders back on top 7-4. A single by senior Alexis French (Rocky River / Magnificat) drew in sophomore Olivia Lombardo (New Castle, Pa. / Laurel) in the fifth inning to go up 8-4. An eight-run sixth inning solidified the win for the Raiders as they took advantage of walks and a three-run home run by Heath to bring home senior Savannah Miner (Louisville) and French to go up 16-4. The Raiders had 16 runs, 14 hits, and five stolen bases leading them to the 16-4 victory.
Junior Cheyanne Bosse (Montville / Berkshire) pitched a complete game for the Raiders recording 100 pitches on 31 batters faced securing three strikeouts with a 2.33 ERA. Bosse improves to 3-0 on the season.
Game Two
The Raiders were led by Dominick who went 3-4 collecting two runs and bringing in two RBIs, as well as senior Allie Goldy (Painesville / Riverside) who went 3-4 bringing in 3 RBIs.
The bats stayed hot after the break as the Raiders brought in five runs in the first inning sparked by a single from senior Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) to bring in Heath. The Raiders kept at it by bringing in five more runs in the second inning off a single by Dominick and a double by Goldy and senior Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) to extend the Raider lead to 10-0. Heidelberg was able to get on the board in the second inning tacking on four runs to decrease the Raider lead to 10-2. Goldy singled out to center in the third to extend the Raider lead to 11-4 as she brought in Pidgeon. Singles by Dominick in the fourth inning, and Hellman and Heath secured the win for the Raiders after five innings of play with a final score of 14-4.
Pitching for the Raiders was junior Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) who improves to 5-0 on the season as she faced 17 batters in three innings of work striking out two batters. Sophomore Megan Zody (Westerville / Westerville Central) closed out the remaining two innings allowing only one hit.
Mount Union remains undefeated in conference play and will continue their OAC schedule as they travel to Otterbein on Saturday, March 27 for a doubleheader with games set to begin at 1 and 3:30 pm.
