Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Senior Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) scored a career-best five goals to lead the Mount Union men's lacrosse team to a 13-9 win over Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders also got two each from junior Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) and senior Matt Bisono (Deer Park, N.Y. / Deer Park), with a single scores from senior Jacob Dodd (Ridgley, Md. / North Caroline), sophomore Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly), junior Clay Barkan (Chagrin Falls / Kenston), junior Alex Ellison (Uniontown / Lake) and sophomore Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) as they improved their overall record to 2-1 and 2-0 in the OAC.
Marietta got four goals from Connor Ficke and fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
Marietta jumped out to a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game. Mount Union responded with two goals from Kungle with assists from Gebhart and Bisono to take a 2-1 lead. The last five minutes of the period saw three goals by both teams with Raiders score coming from Gebhart off an assist from Ellison to tie things at 3-3.
Mount Union got the first goal of the second quarter from Ciotti just 50 seconds in and Marietta responded with a goal of its own. Mount Union grabbed a 6-4 lead off two goals one from Addonizio on a man-up opportunity assisted by Ciotti and then an Ellison goal off an assist by Gebhart. Marietta grabbed the last two goals of the half to tie the game up at 6-6 at the half.
The Purple Raiders took a lead on a 4-0 run with goals from Bisono, on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Ciotti, a goal from defensman Jacob Dodd, an Addonizio goal assisted by Ellison and a Kungle goal gave Mount Union a 10-6 lead. Marietta found the back of the net twice in the final five minutes of the third quarter to cut the lead to 10-8.
Mount Union outscored Marietta 3-1 in the last quarter with goals from Bisono and two more from Kungle.
The Raiders got on offense thanks to face-off specialist Chris Motter (Hudson), who won 17-of-25 faceoffs while sophomore Kyle Reihner (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) had 11 saves for his second win of the season in goal.
Mount Union hosts Wilmington in a non-conference matchup Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Mount Union Stadium.
