Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's volleyball team (11-2, 6-2 MCVL) took Penn State Behrend (1-2, 1-0 AMCC) 3-1 Thursday evening with set scores of 25-20, 27-25, 25-22, at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders were led by senior Justin Sibbel (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) who had 21 kills and junior Mark Bruns (Columbus / Upper Arlington) who had 11 kills. Junior Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Hoban) led the day in assists as he had 38 as well as two service aces. The Raiders remain undefeated at home as well as extend their winning streak to nine.
The Lions were led by Logan Hering who had 14 kills and one service ace.
The Raiders kept close in the first set and began to pull away off a kill by junior Mark Bruns (Columbus / Upper Arlington) to make the score 20-17. The Raiders continued to rally to win the first set 25-20.
In set two, the Raiders kept tight with the Lions as they remained within two throughout the set which wasn't enough as they fell 27-25.
The Raiders took an early set three lead of 5-2 and remained close with the Lions throughout the third set. They pulled away off a kill by sophomore Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) to make the score 23-21, a service error by the Lions secured the win 25-22.
In set four, the Raiders went on a 5-0 run to make the score 18-12. The Lions came back within two at 22-20, but the Raiders were able to finish off a kill by Sibbel to make the score 26-24 to win the match 3-1.
The Purple Raiders are back in action on Sunday, March 14 as they travel to Adrian (Mich.) to continue conference play with a doubleheader at 1 and 3 pm.
