ALLIANCE, Ohio. – The Mount Union women's basketball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference game to No. 4 nationally-ranked John Carroll, 69-56, Wednesday night at the MAAC.
The Purple Raiders (2-3, 1-2 OAC) was led by junior
Emma Cannon (Dalton), who scored a season-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds.
Sophomore
Maddy Miles (Brunswick Hills / Padua Franciscan) finished the night with 10 rebounds and six points.
John Carroll (6-0, 2-0 OAC) was led by Nicole Heffington with 20 points and Olivia Nagy with 14 rebounds and 13 points.
The Raiders grabbed a lead of 6-4 on jumpers from Cannon and senior
Isi Palamone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) and then had their largest lead of 11-8 on a layup from sophomore
Sarah Meech (Smithville). John Carroll ended the first quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 21-13 lead.
Mount Union got within five with 7:17 left in the second quarter on a three-pointer from junior
Gretchen Koken (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley). John Carroll once again stretched the lead out this time to 13 points at the end of the quarter leading 37-24 at the break.
The third quarter saw Mount Union get to within eight once and then a 13-4 run pushed the John Carroll lead out to 17.
In the fourth quarter the Raiders got within nine and a 6-0 John Carroll run to put the game away.
Mount Union heads to Ohio Northern Saturday, December 11 at 2 p.m. in Ada.
