Purple Raiders Split The Day At Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio – Mount Union Women's Volleyball team split the day Saturday afternoon with an Ohio Athletics Conference win over Capital and a loss to Denison.
 
In the first match Mount Union (17-5, 4-1 OAC) beat Capital (3-12, 0-6 OAC) 25-14, 25-19 and 25-19 and ran its OAC win streak to four straight.
 
Leading the Purple Raiders was senior Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) with 12 kills.

Junior Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) and freshmen Alexis Meyer (Avon Lake) both finished with seven kills in the match.
 
Junior setters Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) and Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) had 20 and 14 assists while Thomas picked up five service aces.

Thomas led the team in digs with 18 while junior libero Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) finished with 17 and freshman Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) had 16.
 
The second game Mount Union was defeated by Denison (15-5) 26-24, 25-15 and 25-17.
 
Bartell led the offense with eight kills while freshman Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) finished with six kills.
 
Thomas finished with 15 assists while May had 11 assists in the second game.
 
Kasaris dug out 21 balls while Thomas finished with 11 digs.
 
Mount Union will return to home to continue OAC play taking on Marietta Wednesday, October 20th at 7 p.m. in the MAAC.
