Men's Lacrosse: Second Quarter Surge Sends Raiders to Win

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A run of six-straight goals over the final eight minutes of the second quarter gave the Mount Union men's lacrosse team the lead for good in a 15-7 win at Washington & Jefferson Saturday at Alexandre Stadium.

Matt Bisono (Deer Park, N.Y.) had three goals and two assists, Mike Vilsack (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) had three goals and an assist, and Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) had three goals to lead the Purple Raiders (3-2) to their third straight win.

Alex Strain had three goals and two assists for Washington & Jefferson (1-5).

Mount Union did score three of the game's first goals in the first eight minutes of the first quarter on scores from Addonizio, Bisono and Logan Gebhart (Cannonsburg / Cannon-MacMillan) to take an early 3-1 lead but W&J rallied with three straight goals to to take 4-3 lead with 12:56 to play in the second quarter.

The Raiders scoring run began with an unassisted goal from Sean O'Loughlin (Hudson) with 7:43 left before hafltime. Gebhart scored 34 seconds later that ended up giving Mount Union the lead for good at 5-4. Bisono and Vilsack would each score two more to make it 9-4 at halftime.

Isaac Kinaitis (Green) kept the Mount Union run going with a goal at the 11:16 mark of the third quarter before W&J stopped the run with a Strain goal with 5:10 left in the third quarter that put the score at 10-5. The Raiders scored three more times in the final two minutes of the quarter as Addonizio, Jacob Dodd (Ridgley, Md. / North Caroline) and a man-up goal from Vilsack put the lead at 14-5.

Each team scored two more goals in the fourth quarter with the Raider scores coming from Addonizio and Alek Kungle (Hartville / Lake) for the 15-7 final.

Chris Motter (Hudson) was 18-for-22 on faceoffs while Kyle Reihner (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) got the win in goal with six saves.

Mount Union returns home for a pair of games next week against Grove City (Pa.) on Wednesday, March 11 and Oberlin on Saturday, March 14.
