Box Score ADA, Ohio -- No. 3 seed Mount Union fell 2-0 at No. 2 seed Ohio Northern in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Thursday night at Kerscher Stadium.
The Purple Raiders (11-7) recorded five shots on the night as they were led by senior Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) with two. Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Kissane (Amherst/Steele) logged 12 saves in the match.
Ohio Northern (14-3-1) secured its first goal in the 29th minute as an aggressive offense led them to a 14-1 shot advantage in the first half.
Mount Union had a chance to tie the game at the 42-minute mark on a shot from sophomore Cortni Arp (Copley) but trailed 1-0 at the break.
Less than five minutes into the second half, Northern tabbed another goal in the 50th minute to push its advatange to 2-0.
Lanese, Lauren Beech (Hanoverton/United Local) and Keeley Malone (Chagrin Falls) all had chances in the second half but could not score.
The Polar Bears advance to the championship game against top seed Otterbein, a 1-0 win over No. 4 seed Capital in the other semifinal.
Mount Union has now made it as far as the semifinals in two of the last three seasons.
