Softball: Raiders Sweep OAC Opponent Marietta

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's softball team swept Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Marietta Wednesday afternoon at the 23rd Street Field

The Purple Raiders (10-12, 4-2 OAC) won the first the first game 4-3 and blew out the Pioneers in six innings with an 11-2 win in the second game.

In game one, senior Brooke Cox (Louisville/Lousiville) started the game off with a triple up the middle as senior Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) singled to drive Cox in for a 1-0 lead over Marietta.

A two home run fifth inning for the Pioneers put them ahead of the Raiders 2-1. Mount Union tied it back up with an RBI by Cox driving in junior Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick) who got on by an error from Marietta.

Marietta got back on top in the top of the sixth but a two-run home run by freshman Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleoi) put the Raiders up 4-3.

Scali pitched three and out in the top of the seventh for the Raiders to get the win. Scali allowed three runs on eight hits and had six strikeouts as she moves to 4-7 one the season.

In the second game, the Raiders had 13 hits on eight runs while freshman pitcher Hannah Reusser (Minvera/Minerva) only allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Reusser improves to 6-5 on the season.

Mount Union started off the bottom of the first with senior Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) and Calhoun driving runs in.

The Raiders drove in a run in the bottom of the second as junior Shelby Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) reached to first and advanced to third on the throw driving Scali in.

Another Riley home run in the bottom of the third and a Scali single got the Raiders two more runs to lead the Pioneers 5-0.

Marietta got on the board in the top of the fourth to trail Mount Union 5-1. The Raiders busted the game open having three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to push their lead up 8-1.

The Pioneers got a run in the top of the sixth off of a throwing error on Riley, but the Raiders finished the game with a Scali two-run homerun winning 11-2.

Mount Union hosts Ohio Northern Saturday, April 8 at 1:00 and 3:00 PM at 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio
