Women's Soccer: Big Second Half Leads the Way for Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's soccer team got its first Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season with a 2-0 win over Heidelberg Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders are now 7-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in OAC play while The Berg falls to 7-5-1 and 1-2 in the OAC.

Both Mount Union goals came in the second half, as junior Brooke Schmidt (Massillon/Jackson) scored her first goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 65th minute before junior Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) put the game away with her 13th goal of the season on an assist from Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary). 

Senior goalkeeper Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) recorded her third shutout of the year facing only one shot on goal along with a save on a penalty kick. 

The Raiders will be taking on Marietta Tuesday, October 10th at Mount Union Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
