Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Three second half goals pushed Mount Union to a 3-0 win in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup with Muskingum Wednesday afternoon in New Concord.
With the win, the Purple Raiders advanced their record to 9-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference while Muskingum dropped to 3-12 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
Freshman Natalie Parsons (Millersburg/West Holmes) took over the game for the Purple Raider offense as she scored the first goal of the game and added an assist both early in the second half.
The first half was the battle of the goalies as Mount Union's Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) faced four shots on goal and Muskingum goalie Katie Bodenmiller faced seven shots. Neither goalie let anything past them in the first half as the game went into halftime still scoreless.
The Raiders came out of the locker room from halftime ready to get on the board. Parsons scored in the first minute of the second half for her second goal of the year. In the 65th minute, senior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) added her eighth goal of the year on the assist from Parsons. Adding extra insurance for the Raiders was junior Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) who scored her 13th goal of the year in the 69th minute.
Freel continued her dominance in the second half as she faced seven total shots on goal in the process of clinching her fourth shutout on the year.
The Raiders will be back on the pitch Saturday, October 21 against Wilmington at Mount Union Stadium at 1 p.m.
