Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's softball team defeated Capital in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders won game one 12-7 and then defeated the Crusaders in the second game, 8-2, which makes their record 21-13 overall, and 7-5 in the OAC while Capital is 13-15 overall and 4-6 in the OAC.
Senior Andi Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) went 4-7 with four RBI's on the day going 3-4 in the first game along with junior Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) going 3-4 in the first game.
In game one, Mount Union earned the first three runs in the bottom of the first with Vansickle bringing in one and sophomore Cox running in two.
Capital didn't let that hold them back earning two runs in the top of the second making the score 3-2.
The Raiders had one scoreless inning before the Crusaders pushed for the 5-3 lead with three runs in the top of the third.
Mount Union had a six-run comeback in the bottom of the fourth with home runs from Vansickle and Cox leading Capital 9-5.
The Raiders scored three more in the bottom of the fifth, 12-5, with Vansickle, sophomore Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick), and junior Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) each running in one.
Capital tried to come back in the top of the sixth with two runs, but Mount Union closed out the game not allowing the Crusaders to get any more runs in the seventh inning winning 12-7.
Junior Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) got the win on the mound as she is now 10-7 on the season.
In game two, the game started with the first two innings scoreless for both teams with the bottom of the second and top of the third being three and out innings.
Mount Union came out strong in the bottom of the third with four runs leading Capital 4-0. Sophomore Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) hit a 2 RBI, while Vansickle and Lehman both had one RBI.
The Crusaders and Raiders both scored one run in the fourth making the score 5-1, Mount Union.
The Raiders scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and kept the Crusaders out of the game having a double play at the end of the seventh to close it out.
Senior Erin Simmons (Suffied/Field) got her 10th win on the season with two strikeouts and allowing eight hits.
Mount Union next travels to Muskingum Wednesday, April 20th for an OAC doubleheader at 3:00 pm in New Concord.
