Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's softball team swept Wooster in a non-conference match-up Wednesday March 30 at 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio.
The Purple Raiders (15-9) came from behind to win game one 12-6 then posted a 10-0 five inning shutout in game two.
In game one, Wooster (9-9) came out strong scoring the first six runs, three in the top of the third and three in the top of the fifth to lead 6-0.
Mount Union responded with an 11-run fifth inning to take a commanding 11-6 lead. Wooster scored one more run for the 12-6 final.
Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick) and Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) each drove in three runs while Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside) hit in two runs on three hits to pace the Raider offense.
In the circle, Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) struck out eight and got the complete game win to improve to 7-6 on the season.
It was another big inning in game two for the Raiders as a six-run second helped build a 10-0 lead after four innings.
Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) drove in four runs and Andi Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) had three hits as Mount Union had 15 hits in the game.
Pitcher Erin Simmons held Wooster to just five hits in the win as she moved to 8-1 on the season.
Mount Union stays home to host No. 17 in the nation Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference double-header Saturday, April 2 starting at 1:00 p.m. at 23rd Street Field.
