Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's soccer team defeated the Otterbein Cardinals 2-1 in its final regular season Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night at Otterbein.
The win solidified an OAC Tournament appearance for the Purple Raiders, who are seeded sixth.
The first half of the game remained scoreless, with senior goalkeeper Dylan Lias (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) recording one save.
The first goal of the game came with just over 16 minutes remaining in the second half. Mount Union junior Jesse Tinney (Heidelberg, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored after being awarded a penalty kick, giving the Purple Raiders a 1-0 lead over Otterbein.
Otterbein's Nate Norris tied the game at one less than three minutes later when he headed the ball into Mount Union's goal.
Mount Union junior Kevin Blackley (Aurora/Aurora) tallied the team's second goal late in the game, giving the Raiders a 2-1 lead with five minutes remaining in regulation.
The Purple Raiders finish the regular season with an overall record of 6-7-4 and conference record of 4-4-1, while Otterbein falls to 8-7-3 overall and 3-5-1 in the OAC.
The Raiders will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Monday, Oct. 31st to play Capital University in the first round of the OAC Tournament. The game kicks off at 6 p.m.
