Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's soccer team was topped by #18 Ohio Northern 2-1 in the team's first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup of the season.
The Purple Raiders (4-6, 0-1) battled through the first half with two shots on goal by junior
Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary), but Ohio Northern (7-2, 1-0) goalkeeper Megan Grierson stood firm and held off the Raiders.

Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) recorded three saves on the half, sending the game into halftime tied at zero.
Ohio Northern took the lead in the 53rd minute of the game when Sarah Puntel slipped the ball past Freel after receiving a pass from Hannah Martin at the top of the box.
The Polar Bears increased their lead to 2-0 when Puntel scored again off a free kick from the Raiders' 20-yard line in the 74th minute.
Purple Raider senior Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary) cut Ohio Northern's lead in half after scoring the team's only goal from a penalty kick in the 85th minute of the game.
The Purple Raiders host Baldwin Wallace Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium in the team's second OAC matchup.
