Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio-- The University of Mount Union softball team dropped a pair of games -- 11-3 and 6-2-- to the Capital Crusaders in an Ohio Athletic Conference, double header Saturday in Columbus.
The Purple Raiders drop to 10-14 on the season (3-7 OAC) as Capital advances to 18-7 on the season and 9-1 in the conference.
In game one, Mount Union got on the board first after junior Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa/Pine-Richland) singled up with middle with two outs and bases loaded driving in one runner.
Capital earned the lead in the bottom of the first with two singles and a double driving in two runs. Junior Erin Simmons (Suffield/Field) closed the inning striking out three batters.
Freshman Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside) hit a double down the left field line-- hitting two for four on the game-- followed by junior Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) hitting a single to right field.
Both VanSickle and Baitt stole on the next play sending Baitt home for the Raiders second run tying the game, 2-2.
In the top of the third inning, senior Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South) earned an RBI hitting a grounder to right field sending the Raiders third and final run of the game home.
A four-run fifth inning and a three-run sixth inning put the game away for Capital as the Crusaders went on the win game one, 11-3.
In game two, Capital got an early 2-0 lead scoring a run the first and third inning.
The Crusaders pushed the lead to 5-0 scoring three runs in the fifth inning capitalizing on two Mount Union throwing errors.
The Raiders attempted a rally in the sixth inning as sophomore Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) got on base off a single down the left field line. Freshman Kate Mash (Clinton/Manchester) drove in two runs for the Raiders hitting a double to left field making the score 5-2.
Capital went one to defeat the Raiders 6-2 in game two.
Mount Union has a quick turnaround as they host Marietta in a make-up game tomorrow, Sunday, April 12 at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
