CLEVELAND, Ohio—The University of Mount Union was swept by Case Western Reserve -- 9-8 and 10-1-- in a non-conference, double header Wednesday in Cleveland.

The Purple Raiders drop to 9-7 on the season as Case Western Reserve moves to 14-5.

In game one, the Raiders opened the game with a grand slam by sophomore Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) gaining an early 4-0 lead.

The Spartans cut the lead in half with a home run in the bottom of the first driving in two runs.

Two home runs in the fourth inning by sophomore Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) and Olivia Schumacher (Gahanna/Gahanna Lincoln) push the Raiders to an 8-3 lead.

Case rallied in the fourth inning with a trio of doubles driving in two runs cutting the lead to 8-3. Two home runs driving in four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning led to the eventual 9-8 Case Western Reserve victory.

In game two, the Spartans gained an early lead scoring a total of seven runs in the first two innings including a three-run home run by Annie Wennerberg.

In the top of the second inning the Raiders earned their only run of the game as junior Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) stole home off a wild pitch.

The Spartans scored three more runs before ending the game 10-1 in the fifth inning on a run rule.

Mount Union has a quick turn around traveling to Wooster for a non-conference, double header Thursday, Mar. 26 at 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
