PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- No. 5 ranked Mount Union split a pair of volleyball matches at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
The Purple Raiders defeated Scranton (Pa.), 3-1 before falling 3-1 to host Carnegie Mellon (Pa.).
It was the first loss of the year for Mount Union that now stands at 11-1 overall. Carnegie Mellon is 8-2 after the win while Scranton is 11-5 overall.
In the match against Scranton, junior Kara Berger (Mentor/Mentor) and freshman Mallory Sliman (Amherst/Amherst Steele) each had 12 kills, senior Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) had 23 assists while senior Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) had 28 digs for the Raiders.
Leading the way for Mount Union against Carnegie Mellon was senior Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with 15 kills, senior Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) had 35 assists while Mastroine had 21 digs.
Mount Union plays two more matches Saturday against Buffalo State (N.Y.) and Pitt-Greensburg.
